MEGA CIVILIZATION (eng)

It was in the late 1990s when I purchased Avalon Hill's Civilization. I love history, so the game caught my interest immediately. A large hard cardboard map, cultures, trade cards, and many tokens. The system was very simple, and unlike other games it didn’t use any dice. But it had so much depth that immediately captivated you. Soon after, I bought the Advanced version of the game. In addition, I was lucky enough to find the Western Expansion Map. Me and my friends loved this game instantly! The years passed and a group of people managed to revive Civilization by renewing and expanding it. The Dutch company “999 games” in collaboration with the German company “Pegasus Spiele” released MEGA CIVILIZATION in collector's Edition, and I dare to say that I am a proud owner! Through a series of articles we will get you in touch with the game and we wish you to obtain a copy or find friends to play with!

MEGA CIVILIZATION is a game of skill for 5 up to 18 people. It covers a period from 8000 BC to the end of the Iron Age. Each player receives a nation and tries to expand and acculturate. The winner of the game is the player who fulfills the conditions set by the game. War is important, but not necessary to win. Random events such as calamities, trade, balance between urban and agricultural population, play an important role in the evolution of the game. Cultural breakthroughs, represented by Civilization Advance Cards, are needed to improve your chances to win the game. The key-word of the game is BALANCE. Generally, MEGA CIVILIZATION is a game that you can enjoy with your friends. And believe us when we tell you that your entertainment is guaranteed!

After the end of the turn you check if any of the players is entitled to proceed in the A.S.T. (Archaeological Succession Table). Each step represents a particular historical period from the Ice Age to the Late Iron Age. The winner is not the person the player who finishes first on the A.S.T., nor the person who holds the largest number of cities or Civilization Advancement cards, though they are important factors in determining the winner.

The duration of a normal game can take 10 to 12 hours to complete. Usually it takes longer, depending on the level of knowledge of the game by the players. Fortunately, MEGA CIVILIZATION can be played in a shortest way. The "Short" Scenario takes approximately 6 to 8 hours, while for new players there is the "First Game" scenario, which lasts about 1 to 2 hours.

You can buy the game directly from Pegasus Spiele. It costs 199 euros. As far as I know «999 Games» web site is in Dutch and I wasn’t able to buy the game from them.
